It may not be widely known, but King Darius I of Persia was responsible for the first post messenger service in the World. During his rule (550-486 BC), he was able to send news from the capital to the provinces by means of a line of shouting men positioned on heights. This was known as acoustical telegraphy. Kingdoms were spread out over large territories, so a courier service for letter writing was enabled. Now we have email and the world wide web!
